The Gizmo Guide - December, 2006
Welcome to the last issue of the Gizmo Guide for 2006. With holidays just about to kick off, things are busy at Gizmo as many people get their home computers fixed up for the holidays.
Gizmo will continue to provide tech support, home delivered throughout the festive season but from today we will have different operating hours (9am-6pm Monday till Saturday). We will be closed on Sundays and public holidays (Christmas Day, Boxing Day and New Years Day).
In other news, our Canberra and Brisbane offices are up and running (click here to tell a friend) and we’ve released Gizmo Gift Vouchers just in time for Christmas. Gift vouchers can be purchased for any of the Gizmopacks we offer and can be redeemed in Melbourne, Sydney, Canberra and Brisbane. To buy a Gizmo Gift Voucher call us on 1300 275 449.
In this issue, we will show you some inexpensive tools to keep in contact as well as easy ways to share your holiday memories with friends and family.
Remember if you need help setting up that new gadget or computer which Santa brings you, give us a call.
Best wishes for a happy and safe festive season.
The Gizmo Team
With the holiday season fast approaching, many of us will take the time to get in contact with friends and family. We’ve put together a brief overview of different Internet technologies which makes getting in contact convenient and affordable. If you have the time, give some of them a go...in most cases you probably already have everything you need.
Are you sick of buying $100 computer games only for your kids to tell you a week later that the game is boring?
Many parents find themselves in this situation as there are so many choices and they vary dramatically in quality. Will the game live up to its glossy packaging? Will it be suitable for you kids? Will it keep them entertained for more than 5 minutes? These are all valid questions.
Thankfully, there is a way to make purchasing games a much safer gamble. Most games (especially the good ones) release a demo. A demo is a game taste-tester - a cut-down preview version you can download for free, install and play to see whether or not you want the full version. The only cost you incur is the download fee you pay to your broadband Internet provider.
As demo files are usually quite large (up to 1 gigabyte in some cases) many ISPs provide their own download sites which let you download files without affecting your download limit. Ask your ISP if they have a "download mirror" for game demos so you can avoid large download bills.
Some of the best sites to download demos are:
Most new phones out there can send emails, but why would you bother and how do you get set up to send them? We take you through the steps needed to get your phone ready to send emails.
If we’re going to be working with your computers, we thought you’d like to get to know us first. This time we’re on the couch with GizmoTech Nicole Dunster.
